The artwork at The Retreat was all done by local artist Nina Beall.  Guests will see large and small works throughout the property, and there are small gift items with reproductions as well as artist’ studio!  Here’s what she says about her work and why she chose Austin after exhibiting internationally, and living in Chicago following grad school there and establishing herself as a professional artist:  “As a native Texan, I was drawn to the Austin area and its quiet, peaceful environment with rolling hills, incredible views for miles, abundance of large shade trees, waterways, and spring fed creeks.  As an artist and painter for most of my life, the area seemed ideal for building my home and studio in a style that fit with the environment to be productive and inspired. Inspired by the contrasts of nature, and the hill country, the dwellings are designed with references to the Arts and Crafts architectural movement, with focus on nature,  Texas vernacular, and easy access for traveling elsewhere to other areas that inspire my work.”

Undergrad degree is from The University of Texas, Austin; graduate degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Several years of teaching at college level as well as numerous NEA grants for work and teaching skills.  The work has been shown extensively around the country and internationally in galleries and museums, as well as corporate and private collections.  Studio visits are just a short walk from your accommodation and are by appointment.
